Hi! I’m Cecilia!
I used to introduce myself using my professional title; “Hi! I’m Cecilia. I am an Interior Designer”. This was because I believed that my career and title defined who I was.
After a few years of therapy and hard work on personal growth, I transitioned to; “Hi! I’m Cecilia. I’m a mom”.
I always felt the need to attach myself to and identify with the roles I was taking on, as if my self-worth depended on them.
Only now do I understand that I am who I am, and I accept it. (Who am I kidding, though? I still have plenty of moments where acceptance and guilt come knocking on the door of my brain.) Like you, I am a work in constant progress.
However, now I can properly introduce myself!
Hi! I am Cecilia, and I am many things; a middle mom, a fur mom, a plant mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a runner, the house goddess, the family’s master scheduler, and so much more!
Doesn’t it sound exhausting?? It is! But that’s the reality for the vast majority of women and mothers inhabiting planet Earth.
Women and mothers at whatever phase of their motherhood journey are overwhelmed, courtesy of societal expectations and social media messages.
I have practiced in the architectural industry for over 13 years before succumbing to a nervous breakdown that left me depleted, resentful, ridden with guilt and, mostly questioning my identity.
Thankfully, plants have become my therapy, my happy place.
I found peace in caring for plants and writing about them.
This is where My Tasteful Space was born, and my plants blog started.
You have to forgive me if every once in a while I diverge from plants to womanhood and motherhood topics. I just feel strongly about the role of women and mothers in society.
I am originally from Milan, Italy, where I was born and raised.
I moved to Canada soon after graduating from Design School in 2003.
Ever since I was very young, I had a passion for art, colors, textures and compositions. This passion led me to design school and a career in Interior Design.
What most people don’t know about me is that I’ve also had a passion for plants since the early years.
I used to have a plant collection in our city apartment when I was young. All my little plants were neatly lined up on a West facing window sill. I had them all categorized by type, (an early sign of my organizational skills, or OCD, depends who you ask!).
I find beauty in plants details, such as their shapes, structures and foliage colours and patterns. I believe this beauty can be enhanced and enjoyed by many when properly displayed; whether it’s with the right planter or in the perfect spot.
The wholistic beauty of plants integrated within a space and its personality elevates our moods in incredible ways.
I hope you enjoy My Tasteful Space!
I love to share my knowledge and experience with you!
Cheers,
Cecilia
